My first ever writing gig

A long time ago, in the yesteryear of 2003, I was an avid writer and pursued it with a passion. I wanted to make a life of writing, and submitted my writings wherever I thought I could get them published. Most were deadends, but one publication actually wanted to publish a poem of mine.

I'm still proud of this poem, for the achievement it represents. I was paid 50 dollars to publish this poem, and I look back on it fondly as a spark that has caused me to continue to create. Yes, I wrote it while in high school so it's only so good...but I'm still proud of it.

Kiss

A soft low note plays into the darkness
Echoing and filling the void
A higher pitched vibrato soon accompanies it
Smoothing out to provide a mellow chord
The forte-piano slowly grows into a fortissimo
Note move together, melody and countermelody
Each moving to fulfill a need; a desire
An occasional wrong note jars the phrase
Off beats and accents standing out of the hum
Soon they both move together, blending perfectly
Each anticipating the others crescendos and dynamics
The music comes to a bursting point of sound
Exploding forth in a tidal wave of ecstasy
Finally a rest is written
And then it slows to a legato
Then she says the words

Random poetry?

Insomnia struck last night, so I decided to free-flow write how it felt for me. A couple people liked it, maybe you will too?

Tormented by sounds and words only i can hear
Why does the moon rise when you're near?
How can my soul be so a flame
With music and candles and lights they all came
Those words and sounds and songs which to me
Torment and tease and give no rest to thee
Maybe one day it all shall end
But i will miss the muse in my head
Until such time when I rest all my days
I shall sing the moon down in every way

One from the Vaults: Twas the Night After Thankgiving

'Twas the night after Thanksgiving, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The plates were all dirty, the cupboards all bare,
The fridge was all stuffed with leftovers in there;

My son was all nestled all snug in his bed,
While visions of tinker toys danced in his head;

And I in my worksuit, scarf and fine hat,
Had just settled down for a vodka nightcap,

When out from the workshop there arose such a'clatter,
I sprang from the couch to see what's the matter.

Away through the Hedgegate I flew like a flash,
Opened  door wide and kicked aside all the trash.

My Hedgebeast was running and jumping to and fro
To signal the completion of my weapons down below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Hedgespun sleigh, and eight steam-powered reindeer,

The weapons were primed and the missiles were quick,
"Well, that will finally do in that bastard St. Nick!

I have cold iron stocked and nitro boosts steady
With my night vision goggles I'll not be caught unready!

Now, Basher! Now, Lancer! Now, Taser and Mixen!
Now, Kermit! Now Ares! Now, Flamer and Twitchin'!"

I hopped in the sleigh and turned the key hard,
And rose high from my workshop, leaving ground charred.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the Hedge-top the robo-deer flew,
With a sleigh full of high-grade explosives, and rocket or two.

And then, with a roar, I heard in the night
A pack of Briarwolves, their eyes burning bright.

I drew up my reins, and turned myself 'round,
And pointed my weapons at the bastards on the ground.
There were rockets and rifles for hitting long distance,
And napalm and flamethrowers to ignite me some bitches;

I let loose my payload, tinsel sparkling in the sky,
And blew those poor briarwolves high up into the sky.

My eyes -- how they twinkled! My dimples how merry!
My cheeks were a sparklin', and I ate a hedge-berry!

"These weapons may seem abit much, but they just don't know,
How much I would give to see Santa's guts all over the snow;

His horrific reign of terror finally brought to an end,
And children everywhere can celebrate without fear once again!

And when he is gone," as I rub my hands in the napalm light,
"Then I can do his job, much to the childrens delight,

I can make all the best toys like a right jolly young elf."
And I laughed when I thought of it, in spite of myself;

"A dolly for Susan, and a Nerf gun for Fred,
Soon all will know they have nothing to dread!

A Teleporter for Holly, and a new yacht for Bandy,
While Edria gets a new dress that's just dandy!"

And laying my hands on the reigns nice and tight,
And giving a nod, I flew deep into the night;

The Hobs they all stared in wonder and gave whistles,
As I flew high above them, above Briar and Thistles.

And they all heard me exclaim, as I drove out of sight,
"You're time's up fat bastard, and soon it'll be Toil's night!"

A poem

I kinda felt the urge to write this today. No real reason, nothing inspired it. Its not as good as what they rest of you can do but...eh.

Hopefully you enjoy.

Honor

To fight for the glory of the Crown so near
Along lyst field one day I did proudly hear.
To fight for your Lady's most loving eye,
With chivalry and honor, that is the cry.

I did but pause, and hesitate
My armor twas old, in quite a state,
My body was soft and easily torn,
So I did not fight for honor that morn.

"My Lord" I did say with a small smile,
"My travels have taken me many a mile
I've gazed upon honor quite grand elsewhere.
And many a sight I can happily share."

"If combat and battle is yours to compare,
Let me tell you of honor and glory elsewhere.
Allow me to set a most dramatic scene,
Not often seen displayed in the fighting ring."

"I've seen metal cut deep and ink wells flow far
When battle-ready scribes bring honors to all.
I've seen wvyern, dolphin and triskel's yonder
Carved into vellum to illuminate your honor."

"I've seen fingers so nimble you'd swear them a thief,
With songs sung to bring laughter or even some grief.
They dance along skin, along wood, along string.
Throat dry as they sing your honors till birds ring."

"I've seen sharp blades slice and skin a hide quick
To battle a feast, wit so sharp as to nick.
These cookery generals heaping plates high
In honor of your triumphs, both this day and nearby."

"To each it is said, on our own we should find
That sacred home of honor in our mind.
For though combat guides you to honors homestead,
For me I find honor in your daily bread."

Old things

I know I promised to update on Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday...but I felt like tossing this up here today. I was going through my Livejournal and looking upon the horror that was my teenage angst. Most of my writing in those days was done in notebooks, the smell of a freshly sharpened pencil always seems to have done wonders for my creativity, and thus I have lost a lot of my early works. I have a few pieces here I decided to take the time and clean up a little, kinda a where I've come from I guess. I still intend on doing a Tuesday update, but here's two blasts from the past:

A poem from November of 2004 -

Never awaken O dreamer.
Do not fret your wasteful tears
nor futile struggles on desires unneeded.
For here in this land of madness,
this is where the truth shall forever rest.

Allow yourself to slip away,
do not raise your silken hair or
have worry touch your breast.
Forever dream of rose buds unfolding;
to bloom before the moon is the goal.

For while you walk the endless dream, you are a raw gem;
your soul unshattered, your body once again perfection.
Quartz holds its own natural beauty
when uncut from the rock, still allowing the sun
to catch its spires.

If you awaken O dreamer, you must face the world.
Your tender rose must weather the chills
And last throughout the long fall.
Your stone will be cut and scattered,

You will experience pains.
Tears will flood down your cheeks,
Mighty rapids birthed from your soul.
And you will feel each ebb and flow.

Stay within O dreamer, away from the sun.
Let not your flower wilt in heat,
dance and spin under the light of the moon.
Let your gem remain perfect.
Never awaken.

Song lyrics from February of 2005 -

The song these lyrics are written to is called My Only Wish by Les Aldrich. you cna find a recording here (http://www.jwpepper.com/2472536.item).

I have one thing deep inside
A true feeling I cannot hide
Just one dream I wish to share
My only wish

My only wish consumes my soul
My only wish is for us both
I know my heart speaks the truth
Cause I love you

(guy) there is a wish down deep inside (girl) One I just cannot hide
(guy) Two love birds perched side by side (girl) I've dreampt of it nightly
(guy) A desire this night (girl) that you'll be here again
(both) To hold my hands

And, when the love in our lives
(girl) fully blooms (guy) a rose will be put to shame
My only wish I have for you
Is you by my side

(guy) There is something I wish to say (girl) My soul it longs for you
(guy) My heart races along with yours (girl) My pulse its moving so quick
(guy) My breath is rushing out so fast (girl) I need to catch my breath
(both) Your beauty makes my heart skip a beat!

My one wish is for your love
To hold you close and feel secure
My only wish I truly know
Because of your love

My only wish for you
My only wish for me
My only wish is this
That you'll be here tonight

I like looking back on what I've done, and where I've been. It's a bit refreshing, really, to see improvement in my writing and such. Hopefully tomorrow's update will be in before 6pm!
